Jewell BANDY, Va. --Mr. Alfred M. Jewell, 78, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Tazewell County and was the son of the late Mac and Clara Johnson Jewell, both Tazwell County natives. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a retired miner and a member of the UMWA. He was a member of the Full Gospel Ministries Temple in Richlands. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Mitchell; and three brothers, Albert, Houston and Earl Jewell. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Lucy Smith Jewell; one son, Mr. Gene Jewell and wife Teresa of Sparta, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Virgie Nelson of Bandy; two grandchildren, Brian Jewell and Angela Jewell; and two great-grandchildren, Neisha Shortridge and Eli Shortridge also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Elder Jimmy Moore, Elder Ronnie Beavers and Rev. Tony Shrader officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Link Smith, Leroy Nelson, Shawn Cole, Wayne Jewell, Robin Smith and Allan Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Kyle Nelson. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands.
