Monk RICHLANDS -- Mr. Giles Edward Monk, 78, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at a Tazewell hospital. He was born in Russell County, and was a son of the late Walter and Viola Terry Monk, both Russell County natives. He was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area and was a former employee of F.H. Hill Corp. and General Shale Corp. He was of the protestant faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Monk; and one sister, Mabel Lee Monk. Survivors are: one sister, Mrs. Betty Goss of Wardell, Va.; one brother, Mr. Kenneth W. Monk Sr. of Richlands; six nephews; and many close friends. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at noon at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Jerry Casey officiating. Interment will follow in Hankins Cemetery in Richlands. Pallbearers will be Johnny Goss, Jerry Goss, Tommy Goss, Terry Monk and Woody Monk. Friends may call at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands Monday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.
