Obituary of Otis Newberry, 1973 - Tazewell Co. VA (This obituary is a clipping taken from the Richlands News Press dated 1973 in the possession of Willy Shelton.) OTIS NEWBERRY Otis Newberry, 57, of the Kents Ridge section of Richlands, died Thursday, June 7, in a Richlands hospital after a long illness. Born in Winding Gulf, W.Va., he was the son of the late Wiley and Sarah Shelton Newberry. He had been a resident of the Richlands area for the past 35 years. He was a retired miner and former employee of the Bonnie Coal Co. in Grundy, until ill health forced his retirement 18 months ago. He was a member of the Holiness Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Gertrude Lester Newberry; four daughters, Mrs. Buford (Frances) Martin of Richlands; Mrs. Blaine (Hulda) Farmer of North Wilkesboro, N.C., Mrs. Arnold (Geneva) Fouch of Trenton, Mich., and Pearl Marie Newberry of the home; seven sons, Roger Newberry of High Point, N.C., Harold and Carl Buster Newberry of Richlands, Earnest, David Arnold, James Otis and Douglas Newberry of the home; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Robinson, Rev. Grat Horton and Rev. Dale Holmes officiating. Burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Pallbearers: Luther Cordle, Otis Webb, Garman Hess, Jessie Ball, Don Kimbrell and Lee Parks.
