The cause of the young ladies demise was fever. (The paper is torn. See the next article). Clinch Valley News: Friday, February 10, 1905, Tazewell, VA DEATH OF W. B. HARMAN (sic) ?should be M. B. Harman Tip Top, Va., Feb. 7 Death again has involved our community and a second time the family of our kind neighbor Robert Harman who has lost a daughter and a son within the short space of twenty-nine days by the ravages of fever. On Sunday morning the youngest son, Marvin Bane Harman, nearly 25 years old, passed away. His death occurred at precisely the same hour of the day as that of her sister Mattie, who died just 29 days precious at six o’clock a. m. Marvin was sick only a few days. He had the attention of both Drs. R. M. Witten and Pyott, the latter being almost constantly at this bedside until the end. He also had the kind ministration of loving friends and relatives, many of whom were present at his death. The young man’s prayer or wish was, that he might live till Sunday, was granted. It was a touching scene when it was realized that the physicians had despaired, and that life was fast ebbing away. The careworn and anxious father and mother and six loving sisters and the only brother gathered around the sufferer to gaze through tears upon son, and not to weep. Surely all who were present will not forget this. On Monday morning a great many people gathered at the home, where funeral and memorial services were held by Revs. Bogle and Harless. After which the body was borne to the grave and buried beside his sister. (Marvin Bane Harman & Mattie L. Harman-children of Robert Harman & Frances A. "Fannie" (Harman) Harman. Clinch Valley News: Friday, Gebruary (day?), 1905, Tazewell, VA * (This is almost a genealogist’s dream obituary-Karen) GONE TO REST (In memory of N. F. Compton) At his home, three miles south of Pattonsburg, Mr. Newton Franklin Compton, died Thursday evening Dec. 29th, 1904, at 3:30 o’clock, of Bright’s Disease. He was born near Cove Creek, Tazewell County, Va., Nov. 28, 1857 (It should be 1847-see 1850 & 1860 Taz., Co., Census below. Karen). He went to Gentry Co., Mo., in 1876, and was married to Martha H. Gwynn, Jan. 6, 1878. To this union several children were born-two sons and five daughters. One son died in infancy. His wife and six children and three brothers and three sisters survive his death. Mr. Compton had been in poor health for sometime and was 57 years, one month and one day old, when he passed to the great beyond, where he will realize no pain or suffering. He always loved to read and sing. Tuesday morning his friends met to sing and pray with him. He told them he had nothing against anyone, and only loved to leave. He had no fear of death and was prepared for his rest. Then telling his family one by one he bade them goodbye. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Teter at Civil Bend Church Saturday, at 1 p. m., after which the remains were laid to rest in the Methodist cemetery. His many friends join in extending to the family their sympathy and comfort. Farewell, dear father, sweet be thy rest, Weary with years and pain; Farewell, ‘till in some happy place, We shall behold thy face again. "Tis ours to miss thee all our day. And tender memories of thee keep; Thine is with the Lord for so, He giveth His beloved sleep. * Day of Friday publication had to be after February 20, 1905, due to another story dated from a local community previous to this Friday in February 1905.
