Shortridge RICHLANDS -- Mrs. Edith Alene Shortridge, 87, of 206 Lee St. passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in a Richlands hospital, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Cedar Bluff and was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Nancy Brown Cruey, both Tazewell County natives. She had made her home in the Richlands area most of her life and was the founder and former owner of Cinderella Beauty Shop in Richlands. She was a member of Richlands Presbyterian Church and a member of Richlands Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 104. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, I.C. "Turk" Shortridge; one son, Ronald Shortridge; four sisters, Lona Hubbard, Dolly Smith, Lena Layman and Clara Shamblin; and five brothers, Jake, Bill, Charles, Nepolian and Alfred Cruey. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors are: one son, Kenneth Shortridge and wife, Brenda, of Belfast,Va.; one special grandson, Kenneth Shortridge Jr.; special friend and caregiver, Betty Stiltner; five grandchildren, Kimberly Wright, Rebecca Shortridge, Stephanie Shelton, Karen Cole and Debbie Shortridge; and six great-grandchildren, Patrick Cole, Travis Cole, Nicholas Cole, Stacey Cole, Austin Shelton and Victoria Shelton also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Bobby Laney officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday evening at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands.
