Simpson POUNDING MILL, Va. -- Mr. William E. (Bill) Simpson, 77, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8,. 2002, at his home following a short illness. Born in Tazewell County, Va., he was the son of the late Edgar Walden and Mattie Lou Brewster Simpson. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and was wounded in Normandy and was a P.O.W. He served in the military police in Washington, D.C. He was a member and elder of the Pounding Mill Christian Church where he previously served as Sunday School superintendent. He was a life member of the Casey-Shortt V.F.W. Post 9640 and Tazewell County Chapter 31 D.A.V. where he served many years on the Honor Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Simpson and George A. Simpson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Izona Baldwin Simpson; one son, Jim Simpson and wife Vicky of Rosedale, Va., one daughter, Sandra Kay Jackson and husband Larry of Richlands; one sister, Margaret Elizabeth Brewster of Newhall, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Melanie Simpson of Knoxville, Sherry Graf of Richlands and Derrick Jackson of Radford; four great-grandchildren, Laura Graf, Kayla Graf, Sydney Jackson and Erynn Jackson. Special thanks to Tazewell Community Hospital staff, Dr. Stephen Rinehart and Dr. Karen Hughes. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, in the Singleton Funeral Servcie Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Lance West officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill, Va., where military graveside rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt V.F.W. Post 9640 and the Tazewell County Chapter 31 D.A.V. Pallbearers will be grandson and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be V.F.W. members. After services a reception will be held at the Pounding Mill Christian Church. The family will receive friends at the Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff from 6-9 p.m.Tuesday. Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff is serving the Simpson Family.
