Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of the late Boone and Maude Reedy Smith. He was a retired coal miner and coal operator and had worked for the N & W Railroad. Mr. Smith was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the NRA and the Doran Wesleyan Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joe Roger Smith; one sister, Margaret Nicewander; and one brother, Jim Smith. Survivors are: wife, Kate Sisk Smith; son, Jack (Jackie) Smith and wife Teresa of Bluefield, W.Va.; brother, George Smith of Doran; four grandchildren, Tammy Jenkins, Terry Smith, Shannon Jones and Joe Keith Smith; and five great- grandchildren, Ruthie Hankins, Alexandra Smith, Aaron Smith, Joseph Smith and Tanner Smith. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Singleton Funeral Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Bud Fugate and Rev. Ken Owens officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Phil Nicewander, David Jenkins, Terry Smith, Jimmy Smith, Joe Smith and Dennis Smith. Friends may call at Singleton Funeral Service from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Singleton Funeral Service is serving the Smith family.
