Sparks MAVISDALE, Va. -- Kyle Victor (Spargplug) Sparks, 66 years of age, of the Clifton Fork section, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at his residence. Born in Tazewell County, Va., May 24, 1936, he was the son of the late Marvin Sparks and Sara Boyd Sparks. He was a 1954 graduate of Whitewood High School, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired truck driver and equipment operator. He was a member of the Wilderness Tabernacle Church where he served as deacon, was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two bothers, James Rufus Sparks and Hollie Sparks. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bessie Marie Compton Sparks of Mavisdale; two sons, James W. Sparks and wife Janie of Jolo, W.Va., Frank D. Sparks and wife Pamelia of Richlands; three grandchildren, Alyx Compton, Austin Sparks and Jamie D. Sparks; and one god-granddaughter, Lala Sweeney. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Wilderness Tabernacle Church on Horn Mountain,Va., with Reverend Billy Harrison and Reverend Leonard Meadows oficiating. Burial will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery at Richlands. Active pallbearers will be Benny Davis, Chester Compton, Robert Compton, Alyx Compton, Michael Church, Sam Helton and T.J. Helton. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Wilderness Tabernacle Church, Austin Sparks, Jamie Sparks and Michael Helton. The body will be taken to the church Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. where friends may call with evening service to be held at 7 p.m. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion. The family of Kyle Victor (Sparkplug) Sparks is being served by Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home of Grundy.
