He was born in Paintsville, Ky., and was a son of the late Charlie and Edith Ward Walters. He had made his home in the Jewell Ridge area most of his life and was a member of the Jewell Ridge Presbyterian Church. He was a former employee of W.B.F. White & Sons Hardware Store of Richlands and a retired disabled veteran. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Mrs. Mary Quesenberry Walters; and two brothers, Henderson and Charles Walters. Survivors are: two sons: Mr. Frank Walters of Jewell Ridge; and Mr. Lee Thornton Walters and special daughter-in-law, Diana of Jewell Ridge; two sisters: Mrs. Ethel Altizer of Richlands' and Mrs. Shelby Turner of Wardell, Va.; four brothers: Mr. Estil Walters of Columbus, Ohio; Mr. Roy Walters of Columbus; Mr. Herbert Walters of Largo, Fla.; and Mr. Roy Walters of Largo, Fla.; four grandchildren: Kevin Walters, Johnny Ray Walters, Melissa Ann Walters and Tiffany Barnett; and three great-grandchildren Halei Walters, Isaac Barnett and Isabella Barnett. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Richard Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be John Otis Altizer, Sonny Farmer, Edward Farmer, Ken Ratcliffe, Bill Stiltner and John Brown. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640 of Richlands and Disabled American Veterans Tazewell County Chapter 31 will conduct military graveside rites.
