F. & A. M, held at their Hall Graham, Va., June 22nd, A. D. 1887, A. L. 5887, the following preamble and resolutions were unanimously adopted: WHEREAS; it hath pleased the Supreme Ruler of the Universe in His wisdom to remove from our midst , our dearly beloved friend and brother, Zachariah S. Witten, who was a charter member of this Lodge, and its first W. M., departed this life at 2 o’clock A. M. June 22nd, 1887, aged 72 years, 4 months and 14 days. BROTHER WITTEN has been a devoted Freemason for thirty years . Therefore be it: RESOLVED 1st. That n the death of BROTHER WITTEN we have indeed lost a faithful brother, and the community at large a good citizen. RESOLVED 2nd. That we while bowing to the degree of the Supreme Ruler of the Universe fee deeply grieved at the loss of our beloved friend and brother, though knowing, by his unbounded charity, undoubted integrity, honesty, and uprightness with his fellow man, that our loss will be eternal gain, "Blessed are the pure in heart, they shall see God." RESOLVED 3rd. That we deeply sympathise with his family, relatives and friends, in their hour of trial, assuring them, though dead, he liveth in our affections and esteem. RESOLVED 4th. That the usual badge of mourning be worn for thirty days and that a copy of these resolutions be sent BROTHER WITTEN’S family, also the Clinch Valley News, Mountain Index, and Pocahontas Headlight for publication, and that they be spread upon the records of our Lodge.
