TAZEWELL COUNTY, VA - VITALS - Marriage, Dewey Evans to Clara Sluss ----¤¤¤---- "Clinch Valley News: Tazewell, Tazewell Co., VA Friday, October 26, 1923 EVANS-SLUSS A wedding of interest took place at Tazewell, on last Thursday evening at 7 o'clock, at the Presbyterian Manse, when MISS CLARA SLUSS, became the bride of MR. DEWEY EVANS. The ceremony was performed by REV. W. W. ARROWOOD. MRS. EVANS is the charming and attractive daughter of MR. and MRS. F. SLUSS, of Mud Fork. MR. EVANS is a son of MR. and MRS. GEORGE EVANS of Kingsport, Tenn. MR. and MRS. EVANS were accompanied to Tazewell by MR. BERMINGTON, a friend of the groom, and MISS IRA (sic) K. SLUSS, sister of the bride, also MISS EYLN (sic) and MISS ALLIE BILLIPS, of Mud Fork. MR. and MRS. EVANS will make their home at War, West Va., where MR. EVANS has a position, until March, and then they will make their home in Philadelphia. [Clara J. Sluss, d/o Fortunatus Uncle Natí Sluss who was a son of James Sluss & Clair Rinda Gouldy/Golden,etc. Fortunatnus Sluss was a brother of Corrilda Alice Sluss who married Rufus Jackson Shrader, and Margaret Rebecca Sluss, who married Hugh Edward Tabor. Fortunatus had several other brothers and sisters. The mother of Clara J. (Sluss) Evans and wife of Uncle Nat was Ava Hays, d/o George Hays & Phoebe Evans/Ivans. Dewey Steve/Steve Dewey Evans-I am uncertain which way the name is correct., was a son of George Samuel Evans & Sarah íSallieí Billips who was a d/o Samuel Augustus 'Gus' Billips and Sarah Jane Bowman. Iris Kansas Sluss was the sister of Clara J. Sluss. I believe both Evelyn and Allie Billips to have been the granddaughters of Samuel Augustus ëGusí Billips & Sarah Jane Bowman.
