Virginia Beach - Lonnie Baxter, 47, of 1037 Katie Brown drive, who died Sunday
in his home after a short illness, was given final rites Thursday in
Union-Kempsville Baptist Church by the Rev. S. L. Scott. Burial followed in
Jones Memorial Park with Morning Glory Funeral Home in charge.

A native of Princess Anne County, he was a son of the late Lonnie and Mrs.
Gertie Baxter and the husband of Mrs. Helen Baxter. He worked five years for
Roosevelt Memorial Park and was a member of Union-Kempsville Baptist Church.

Besides his widow, surviving are a stepson, John Simmons, three daughters, Mrs.
Gertrude Speller, Miss Rosa Lee Baxter, and Miss Helen C. Baxter and a
stepdaughter, Miss Evelyn Simmons, all of Virginia Beach; five brothers, John
Baxter, Dewey Baxter, Leroy Baxter, and Herman Baxter of Virginia Beach and Zac
Baxter of Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. Beulah Bailey, Mrs. Henrietta Payton, and
Mrs. Carolyn Land, and a foster sister, Mrs. Annie Mae Bidley, all of Virginia
Beach; and six grandchildren.
