Butt, who, it will be remembered, sustained serious injuries on last Monday morning by falling from the fourth story to the ground floor of his warehouse, corner Market Square and Elizabeth Street, died at about half past twelve o'clock yesterday afternoon at his residence, No. 30 Fenchurch Street. Up to within twenty-four hours before his death his condition had been considered favorable, but delirium then set in and death ensued not long after as stated. Mr. Butt was a native of Norfolk and was aged 52 years. He lived for some years in Portsmouth and married and engaged in business in that city. He afterwards resided in Norfolk, doing business here till his death He leaves a family to whom the affliction is, of course, a terrible one. Mr. Butt was a man of unostentatious deportment, but true worth; he was a good citizen, though a retiring one and in all the relations of life was of an exemplary character. His funeral will take place Sunday morning at 11 o'clock from his late residence. *************************************************************************** Death of James M. Butt, Esq - Yesterday, at 12:30 o'clock, this estimable gentleman passed away after a few days of great suffering. It will be remembered that on Monday last the deceased was terribly wounded by falling through the elevator hatchway at his store on Market Square, from which place he was conveyed to his residence, at No. 30 Fenchurch Street, where he secured the best surgical attendance up to the hour of his death. Mr. Butt was in the fifty-second year of his age, was a native of this city, where for a number of years he had successfully conducted a growing business in the hardware, mill and machine supply line. As a business man Mr. Butt was upright and fair towards his fellow man, as a friend, sincere, and as a husband and father, devoted and indulgent. He leaves a wife and two children who have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. The funeral will take place from his late residence, 30 Fenchurch Street, Sunday morning at 11 o'clock at which time and place the friends and acquaintances are requested to attend.
