Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, May 10, 2009 
VIRGINIA BEACH - Deacon George Davis Jr., known as "George Jr.," of the 4900
block of Hillswick Drive, died May 5, 2009, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.
Born in Princess Anne County, now Virginia Beach, he retired as an assistant
superintendant for the City of Virginia Beach after 41 years of service.

He was a member of Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church where he was involved with
the Deacon's Ministry.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Davis; two daughters, Phyllis Herbert (Edwin)
and Aretha Turner; two sons, George Davis III (Lisa) and Vincent Davis; 25
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; aunt, Georgia Davis; one great-aunt,
Nancy D. Mullen. He reared many of his other family members.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Ethel Lee Banks (Kelly) and his parents.

A funeral will be held Tuesday at noon in New Hope Baptist Church, Virginia
Beach, the Rev. Hubert Wilson presiding. Burial will be in Jones Memorial Park .
Community Funeral Home, Virginia Beach, is in charge.
