Virginia Beach - Joseph Dukes, a native of Norfolk County, was given final 
rites Tuesday in St. Stevens Church of God and Holiness by the Rev. L. 
Thurman Burton.  Mr. Dukes was interred in Betty Jones Memorial Park with 
Hairston Funeral Home in charge.

The deceased, of 144 Burford avenue, died Feb. 17 in his home after a short 
illness.  He was a son of the late Robert B. and Mrs. Jeanette Dukes and the 
husband of Mrs. Mattie Dukes.  A member of Stevens Church of God and 
Holiness, Mr. Dukes was retired from the City of Virginia Beach.

Besides his widow, suriving are a son, Joe M. Dukes of Virginia Beach;  
three daughters, Mrs. Ollie Olds, Mrs. Hester Olds and Mrs. Thelma Benjamin, 
all of Virginia Beach;  three brothers, McKinley Dukes, William C. Dukes and 
Robert B. Dukes of Chesapeake;  a stepbrother, James Ellis of Norfolk;  two 
sisters, Mrs. Cora Godfrey of Virginia Beach and Mrs. Nancy Mullin of 
Norfolk;  17 grandchildren;  and three great-grandchildren.
