Norfolk - Dewey A. Fanning, Sr., 72, of 321 E. 26th street, a Navy veteran of
World War 1 who also served in the Merchant Marine, died in a hospital.  A
native of South Carolina, he lately worked for a downtown hotel and retired.

Surviving are a son, Dewey A. Fanning, Jr., of Norfolk;  13 grandchildren;  and
two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in Mt. St. Mary Holiness Church by Bishop Mary
Johnson.  Burial was in Jones Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, with Twilight
Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
