ROBERT BRUCE TABB, Doctor Tuesday, November 13, 1906 Died Monday morning, November 12, 1906 at Fall's Church, Virginia. He was born August 10, 1833 in Elizabeth City County, Virginia. He is the son of JOHN TABB, who died December 5, 1860 and MARY ANNE VEALE TABB, daughter of JOSEPH BRUCE of Norfolk County. She died October 21, 1842. He studied medicine and began practice in Camden County, North Carolina. At the beginning of the Confederate War, he entered the service, enlisting in Bourrough's Battalion of Cavalry, which was afterwards merged into the 15th Virginia Regiment, Cavalry, Army of Northern Virginia. On November 10, 1862, at Fredericksburg, he was severely wounded and incapacitated from further active duty. But still faithful to the cause, he served to the end of the war at Richmond, Virginia in hospital duty. At the close of the war, he located in Norfolk County, engaging in practice of his profession and farming. He married on April 25, 1861 to ELIZABETH ANNE WARDEN, who was the daughter of WILLIAM W. WARDEN and they had 4 children, only 1 of whom survives, MARY ISABELLA STEWART, wife of CHARLES A. STEWART of Falls Church, Virginia. He was elected to the house of delegates in 1883 and served one term with credit. He was nominated by the democratic party for a second term, but declined the nomination. He was a man of high character, distinguished in his profession and generally beloved by those who knew him. His funeral will take place from the residence of his son in law, CHARLES A. TABOR Sunday, February 1, 1953 Roanoke, Virginia, January 31 - Age 59, vice president and general manager of the Norfolk and Western Railway, died Friday night, January 30, 1953 at his home, 2706 South Jefferson Street. He succumbed in his sleep and was found dead in bed. The North and Western official returned Friday, January 30, 1953 after being out of the city most of the week on a business trip. He began his railway career in 1907 as a water boy in the maintenance-of-way department on the North and Western's Pocahontas Division. He was appointed general manager of the railway in 1942. He was reappointed general manager and elevated to vice president in 1946. Funeral services will be held at the home at 11:00 am Monday, February 2, 1953. Burial will be in Bluefield, West Virginia. When he relaxed in the back seat of a car, his friends thought nothing of it. Early Saturday morning, January 24, 1953 about 3:30 am, his friends tried to awaken him, they told police. The "relaxed" man felt cold to the touch, so the friends called police. The officers confirmed their fears, he was dead. A check with his wife of 613 West Liberty Street, uncovered that he suffered from high blood pressure. The coroner ruled "death by natural causes." NORA LLEWELLYN (LEULLA) TENNEFOSS, Mrs. Saturday, December 12, 1953 / Sunday, December 13, 1953 / Monday, December 14, 1953 A pedestrian was killed Friday afternoon, December 11, 1953 when she allegedly stepped in front of a speeding car on Route 166, between Dozier's Corner and Oak Grove in Norfolk County, according to State Police. Trooper J.W. HARRISON named the victim, age 48 of Route 4, Box 424, Norfolk. She died almost instantly. The only eyewitness account available was from DEWITTE WALTER HUNSWECKER, 61, of 666 DeKalb Avenue, Portsmouth, driver of the car. The driver was arrested on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. Although HARRISON said he was continuing his investigation. The State Policeman quoted HUNSWECKER as saying the woman stepped from behind the second of two buses that were parked on the highway and into the path of the automobile, which was traveling in a direction opposite to that faced by the motionless buses. She was a native of Pennsylvania, had lived in the Dozier's Corner section of the county 41 years. She was a member of the Oak Grove Methodist Church. She was a daughter of the late BYARD and Mrs. MALINDA KEMP and widow of CARL MYRON TENNEFOSS. He had been at his desk and in good health until a few days ago when he developed a respiratory infection, according to his physician, Dr. H.L. MARSHALL. Death followed a sudden collapse Wednesday, February 11, 1953. He was a Democrat, appointed to his trust territory post two years ago by President TRUMAN after 18 years in the Senate. He was superintendent of steam shovel work for a railroad contracting firm and left here several days ago for Danville. His son, RICE THOMAS, is a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute, Lexington. TIGERT, Bishop Thursday, November 22, 1906 (other spelling of surname, TIGART) Tulsa, Indian Territory, November 21 - Of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, died here Wednesday, November 21, 1906 after an illness of ten days. His home was in Louisville, Kentucky. She was taken ill while attending a church conference at Toka, I.T., but disregarded the advice of physicians to rest. He came to Tulso, intending to open the conference on the 14th, but was compelled to take to his bed. His illness was caused by the lodgment of a piece of chicken bone just below the tonsils. This caused an inflammation of the throat and resulted in blood poisoning. He was one of the most distinguished prelates of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South and his death, which occurred at Tulsa, I. T., where he had gone to preside over the Indian Mission Conference, is a distinct loss to Southern Methodism. He was the son of JOHN JAMES TIGERT and MARY VAN VEGHTEN TIGERT and was born in Louisville, Kentucky, November 25, 1856. His early years were spent in his native city, where he was ten years in the high schools. He graduated at Vanderbilt University, was a student in the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville for two years, was licensed to preach in 1875 by Broadway Quarterly Conference and had served the following conference appointments: 1877, Mission pastor in Louisville, 1878 - 1881, Franklin Station, 1881 - 1890, Tutor and professor in Vanderbilt University, 1890 - 1894, pastor at Kansas City, 1894, elected book editor and editor of the Methodist Review, editor Educator and Author. He received the D.D. from Emory, Henry and LL, D. from the University of Missouri. He was a member of the general conference in 1890, 1894, 1898, 1902 and 1906. At the session held in Birmingham, Alabama in May 1905, he was elected Bishop on the first ballot. He attended the Ecumenical Conference of 1901, before which body he read a paper which received much favorable comment in England and Germany. He was the author of the following works: "Constitutional History of American Episcopal Methodism", "Handbook of Logic", "Systematic Theology", "The Preacher Himself", "Passing Through the Gates", "Manual of Christian Doctrine", "The Journal of Thomas Coke", "A Voice From the South", and "Theology and Philosophy". His death will be received with profound sorrow by the Methodists of Norfolk and vicinity, where he was well known and where he had frequently visited and in the pulpits of whose churches his eloquent voice had been often heard. LAKE TRIPLETT (P) Tuesday, February 10, 1953 Marshall, February 9 - Long prominent in Democratic party affairs in Virginia and a former member of the General Assembly, died Monday, February 9, 1953 in a Washington, DC hospital. He was 66. He suffered a fractured leg three weeks ago in a freak mishap. However, his physician, Dr. JOHN REISINGER said his death was caused by complications, a general failure of the heart and kidneys. He was a farmer and cattle raiser, represented Fauquier County in the House of Delegates for eight terms. He did not seek re-election in 1951. At the time of his death, he was a member of both the Democratic State Central Committee and the Democratic Executive Committee. In the State Legislature, he often mixed fun with the more serious business. In 1946, he was one of two patrons of a bill that proposed to abolish work. Two years later, he took the occasion of a snow storm to offer a bill to regulate the depth of snow. He was born December 1, 1886 at Markham, in Fauquier County. He was educated at Wake Forest College. He formerly was president of the Warrenton Production Credit Association and director of the National Farm Loan Association of Fauguier County. He was a mason. Twelve years later, when Tuck and Malpass Inc, general contracting, was formed, he became its Vice President. A Deacon of the First Baptist Church, he also had been chairman of the Boy Scout committee for many years. He graduated from VPI in Electrical Engineering in 1909 and was a past president of the VPI Alumni Association. He was treasurer of the Tidewater Division of the Virginia Chapter, National Electrical Contractors Association. The remains will be forwarded to Nansemond County Thursday, November 22, 1906 at 10:00 am by Southern train.
