Norfolk Journal and Guide, May 24,1969
Norfolk - Mrs. Mary Purnell of 1022 Wood street received funeral rites May 14 in
Solid Rock Christian Church, Berkley.  The Rev. J. H. Harrell delivered the eulogy.

A native of Hanson, she died May 9 in a local hospital.  She was the wife of
John D. Purnell, and a daughter of the late Henry and Mrs. Effie Ebron.

She was retired from the Norfolk school system as a maid after 15 years.  She
was a member of Holy Temple in Berkley.

Besides her husband, surviving are a stepson, Arcelious J. Purnell of Norfolk; 
four sisters, Mrs. Julia Seabrook, Mrs. Sophia Bryant, Mrs. Nellie Jordon, all
of Hanson, and Mrs. Ethel Harrell of Norfolk;  and 11 grandchildren.

Interment was in Jones Memorial Park with Hale Funeral Home in charge.
