Adams and George Goodman in Washington County, Virginia. This Indenture made this 24st day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven between Benj. S. Adams & Nancy his wife of the county of Washington and state of Virginia of the one part and George Goodman of the county and state of Virginia of the other part, Witnesseth, that the said Benjamin S. Adams and Nancy his wife for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred dollars current money of the United States to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, do grant, bargain and sell unto the said George Goodman and his heirs one certain tract or parcel of land, lying and being in the county of Washington aforesaid on the waters of Beaver Creek containing one hundred and seven acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows to wit Beginning at a small white oak in a line of John Teators land, thence N85 W27 1/2 poles to a large white oak and small gum N57 W39 poles crossing a branch to a white oak and hiccory in the mouth of a hollow by said branch N78 W111 poles to three white oaks on a ridge N13 W35 3/4 poles to the great road and along the same N66 E26 poles N49 E24 poles N34 1/2 E30 poles running on the fence the center of the fence being the division line. Thence running on the fence to the crop fence between Goodman & Moore S23 1/2 E111 poles N67 E85 poles crossing a creek to a stake at the corner of a fence S26 1/2 E54 poles to a stake in Teetors line and with the same S63 1/2 W2 poles S15 E10 poles to a stake in Teetors old line and with the same S53 W58 1/2 poles crossing the branch to the Beginning. Being the same land purchased by the said Adams of Adam Fleenor now dec'd with all its appurtenances To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said George Goodman and his heirs to the sole use and behoof of him the said George Goodman and his heirs forever. And the said Benj. S. Adams for himself and his heirs doth covenant withe the said George Goodman and his heirs that he the said Adams & his heirs the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said George Goodman and his heirs against the claims of all persons whomsoever shall Warrant and will forever defend. In Witness whereof, the said Benj. S. Adams and Nancy his wife have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals the day and year first above written. Signed, sealed, and delivered Benj. Adams & Nancy his wife of the county of Washington and state of Virginia of the one part and George Goodman of the same county of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Benjamin S. Adams and Nancy his wife for & in consideration of the sum of $750 do grant, bargain & sell unto the said George Goodman and his heirs a piece of land lying & being in the county of Washington on the waters of Beaver Creek beginning at a locust stake on the west side of Teetors branch thence with Watermans line N67 E27 1/4 poles crossing said Branch to the stake at the corner of a fence S26 1/2 E54 poles to a stake on Teetors line & with the same S65 1/2 W2 poles to four dogwoods from one root S15 E10 poles to a stake on the old line & with the same S53 W58 1/2 poles crossing the Branch to a small white oak N85 W27 1/2 poles to a large white oak and small gum N57 W39 poles crossing Goodman's Branch to a white oak & hiccory at the mouth of a hollow by said branch N78 W66 poles to a stake between a gum dogwood & sourwood marked for pointers thence leaving said line and for a new one N68 3/4 E140 poles to the beginning. The said tract or parcel of land being more or less than fifty acres with all its appurtenances To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said George Goodman and his heirs to the sole use & behoof of him the said George Goodman and his heirs forever & the said Benjamin S. Adams & Nancy his wife for themselves and their heirs do covenant with the said George Goodman & his heirs that they the said Benjamin S. Adams and Nancy his wife and their heirs the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said George Goodman and his heirs against all claims of all persons whomsoever will Warrant and will forever defend. In witness whereof the said Benjamin S. Adams and Nancy his wife have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals the day & year first above written. Benj. S. Adams S.S. Nancy Adams S.S. Washington County Va to wit: We Peter Minich & Abram Fulkerson justices of the peace in the county aforesaid in the state of Virginia do certify that Benjamin S. Adams a party to a certain deed bearing date on the 27th day of September 1826 and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act & deed & desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the county court of Washington in order that the said deed may be recorded Given under our hands & seals this 2d day of December 1826. Adams parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 27th day of September 1826 & hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid & being examined by us privily and apart from her husband & having the deed fully explained to her she the said Nancy Adams acknowledged the same to be her act & deed and declared that she had willingly signed sealed & delivered the same & that she wishes not to retract it.
