Persons or organizations desiring to use this material, must obtain the written consent of the contributor, or the legal representative of the submitter, and contact the listed USGenWeb archivist with proof of this consent. ***************************************************************** Transcription of a deed between Elijah Gillenwaters and George Goodman in Washington County, Virginia This Indenture made this fourteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and 9 between Elijah Gillenwaters of the county of Washington in the state of Virginia of the one part and George Goodman of the county and state aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Elijah Gillenwaters for and in consideration of the sum of 15 dollars current money to him in hand paid Do bargain and sell to the said George Goodman and his heirs thirty five acres of land it being part of a survey patented to said Gillenwaters which contained 117 acres dated the 20th August 1801 and is bounded as follows to wit. Beginning at three small oaks at the foot of a hill thence East 85 poles to a white oak S 37 E 100 poles to a triple white oak by a creek leaving Goodman's lines with Teaters N 61 E 38 poles to a white oak and gum on Michael Fleenor's line with the same N 78 W 48 poles to three white oaks near the head of a hollow N 17 W 78 poles to a white oak on the South side of a Ridge corner to Nicholas Fleenor N 89 W 142 poles to three small white oak by the road on Fulkersons line S 35 E 50 poles to the Beginning with all its appurtenances To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said George Goodman and his heirs to the sole use and behoof of him the said George Goodman and his heirs forever. And the said Elijah Gillenwaters for himself and his heirs do covenant with the said George Goodman and his heirs that he the said Elijah Gillenwaters and his heirs, the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said George Goodman and his heirs against all persons whosoever shall warrant and will forever defend. In Witnesseth whereof the said Elijah Gillenwaters hath hereunto subscribed his name and affixed his seal the day and year first above written. Elijah Gillenwaters S.S. Virginia At a Superior Court of law held for Washington county at the courthouse the 10th day of April 1809. This Indenture of bargain and sale between Elijah Gillenwaters of the one part and George Goodman of the other part was acknowledged in court by the said Elijah Gillenwaters as his act and deed and ordered to be recorded.
