Persons or organizations desiring to use this material, must obtain the written consent of the contributor, or the legal representative of the submitter, and contact the listed USGenWeb archivist with proof of this consent. ***************************************************************** This Indenture made this 3th day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one Between Arthur Moore & wife of the county of Washington and state of Virginia of the one part and George Goodman of the same county of the other part Witnesseth that the said Arthur Moore and Elizabeth his wife for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and forty three dollars current money of the United States to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged do grant bargain and sell unto the said George Goodman and his heirs a certain parcel of land lying and being in the County of Washington containing fifty four acres and bounded as follows, to wit Beginning at a white oak by a branch corner of Peter McClelland's land and with a line thereto S44 E53 poles to a hickory on a hill side thence with Clines line S34 E84 poles to a hickory near a field to Stoffles land and with his line S58 W75 poles to a gum sowerwood (sic) and white oak thence running across Arthur Moore's field N31 W132 poles to a gum and black oak on Peter McClelland's line and with it N56 E48 poles to the Beginning with all its appurtenances To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said George Goodman and his heirs to the sole use and behoof of him the said George Goodman and his heirs forever, And the said Arthur Moore & his wife for themselves and their heirs do covenant with the said George Goodman and his heirs that they the said Moore and wife and their the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said George Goodman and his heirs against the claims of all persons whomsoever shall warrant and will forever defend In Witness whereof the said Arthur Moore & Elizabeth his wife have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals the day and year first above written. Arthur Moore (signature and seal) This Indenture of bargain & sale between Arthur Moore & Elizabeth his wife of the one part and George Goodman of the other part was acknowledged in the Clerk Office of Washington County on this 3th day of November 1821 before Jacob Lynch deputy Clerk of the said county by the said Moore as his act and deed and ordered to be recorded.
