Stevens Abington Va Recorded on Roll of Pensioners under act February 3, 1853, Page 124 Vol. A. ______________________________________________________________________________ Virginia Washington County to wit On the 6th day of October in the year 1834 personally appeared in open court before Benjamin Estill Judge of the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery being a Court of Record Ezekiel Hobbs resident of the County of Washington in the State of Virginia aged seventy-two & upwards years who being first sworn according to law upon his oath doth make the following declaration in order to obtain the pension or provision made by the act of Congress of the 7th of June 1832. That he was drafted in the year 1776 in the County of _(blank)_ but now the County of Washington having been divided and sent to Fort Shelby where he did duty two months under the command of Captain Fulkerson. At that time the Army under the command of Col Christian marched into that country with which he went as a volunteer against the Cherokee and was in that service two months fully. In 1777 he was drafted to do duty in Benham Fort on the North fork of Holston River remained there one month and then march over the mountain to C?? fort on Clinch to prevent that fort from being taken by the Indians which was afected and the lives of a large number of women & children as well as men saved - there he served one month. He then was marched back to Benham fort and there employed two months as a guard in that year (1778) he believes in the month of August an expidition marched to Kentucky against the Indians in which he was drafted - and put under the command of Capt George Adams who was commanded by Major Daniel Smith. They returned not long before Christmas making a tour of service of four months in which he encountered great hardships. He was in that year 1778 nearly the whole year in actual hard service against the savage enemy on the frontier. In 1779 he was drafted for one month service at Benhams fort being all of his service in that year. In 1780 he was drafted to march against the British and Tories in Carolina they rendezvoused at one Evan Bakers and marched with the Regiment commanded by Col William Campbell on the expedition to Kings Mountain but being taken sick was left and did not share in the glory of that battle - he was only two weeks in that service and was the last. He was living on the north fork of Holston River when he was first called into service on the same farm where he now resides in the County of Washington, Virginia and where he has always resided. He never had any regular discharge that he can remember & if he had, it has long been lost. He served 13 months and 2 weeks in all. That his name is not on the pension list of any State and he hereby relinquishes all claim to any pension but this. Ezekiel his X mark Hobbs ______________________________________________________________________________ Washington County to wit We Joseph Barker of the County of Washington being a Clergyman residing in the said County and Francis Ellington Esq also residing in the said County of Washington hereby certify that we are well acquainted with Ezekiel Hobbs who has subscribed and sworn to the above declaration, that we believe him to be seventy two & upwards years of age and that he is respected and believed in the neighborhood where he resides to have been a soldier of the Revolution and that we concur in that opinion. Sworn to and subscribed in open court on the 6th day of October 1834 Frank Ellington Joseph Barker And the said Court doth hereby declare an opinion after the investigation of the matter and after putting the interrogatories subscribed by the War Department that the above applicant was a (rest missing) ______________________________________________________________________________ Declaration of Elizabeth Hobbs, in order to obtain the bennefits of the 2d Section of the Act of February3/5 1853 Respectively Showeth State of Virginia } County of Washington } SS On this 28th day of June 1853 personally appeared before the Washington County Court, of the State of Virginia, Elizabeth Hobbs, a resident of the County of Washington and State aforesaid, aged _(blank)_ years, who first, being duly sworn according to law, doth, on her oath, make the following declaration in order to obtain the bennefits of the provision made by Act of Congress, passed on the 3d day of February 1853, granting pensions to widows of persons who served during the Revolutionary War. That she is the widow of Ezekial Hobbs, who was a pensioner of the United States in the County of Washington, and State of Virginia. That she was maried to the Said Ezekial Hobbs on the _(blank)_ day of June Eighteen hundred and _(blank)_. That her said husband died on the 13th day of June _(blank)_. That she was not maried to him prior to the 2d day of January Eighteen hundred, but at the time stated above. She further declares that she is now a widow. D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty five personally appeared before me, a justice of the peace, within and for the county and State aforesaid, Elizabeth Hobbs aged 70 years, a resident of Washington County in the State of Virginia who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Ezekiel Hobbs deceased, who was a in Revolution in the company commanded by Captain _(blank)_ in the _(blank)_ regiment of _(blank)_ commanded by _(blank)_ in the war with Great Britain, declared by the United States on the XXXXXXXXXX that her said husband _(blank)_ at _(blank)_ on or about the _(blank)_ day of _(blank)_ A.D._(blank)_ for the term of 14 days and continued in actual service in said war for the term of _(blank)_ and was honorably discharged at _(blank)_ on the _(blank)_ day of _(blank)_ A.D. _(blank)_ She further states that she was married to the said _(blank)_ in _(blank)_on the _(blank)_ day of _(blank)_ A.D. _(blank)_ by one _(blank)_ a _(blank)_ and that her name before her said marriage was _(blank)_ that her said husband died at _(blank)_ on the _(blank)_ day of _(blank)_ A.D. _(blank)_ and that she is now a widow. She further declares that she has not heretofore made application for bounty land under the act approved September 28, 1850, XXXXXXXXXXX _(blank)_ XXXXX _(blank)_ XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX cannot now be returned. Witness our hands and seals this 27th day of July 1803. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended between the above bound Ezekiel Hobbs and Elizabeth Lilley. Now if there is no lawful cause to obstruct the same, then the above obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force.
