Arnold ABINGDON -- Ernest Wilson Arnold, 88, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Washington County, Va., who lived most of his life in Abingdon. He was the son of the late John and Hattie H. Arnold. Mr. Arnold and his late wife were co-owners of Arnolds Jewelry store for 54 years. He was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Mr. Arnold was a charter member of the Abingdon Civitan Club where at the time of his death he was the only living charter member of the Abingdon Civitan Club. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Linda Arnold of Kingsport and Mike and Arlinda Arnold of Abingdon; two grandchildren, Kitty Arnold Tomlin and husband Chris of Kingsport and Alora McNutt of Abingdon; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Luke Tomlin of Kingsport; a special brother-in- law, Jack Davenport of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2003, in the Campbell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Rowland officiating. Burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jack Davenport, Chris Tomlin, Dr. William E. Cline, Claude McGlothlin, John Kuczko, Hugh "Doc" Arnold, Joe T. Phipps and Bobby Boling. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Abingdon Civitan Club, C.B. Hale, C.H. Arnold Jr., Sam Snead and Frank Register. The family will receive friends at the Campbell Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening. Flowers will be accepted or those who wish may make memorial contribution in memory of Mr. Arnold to the Memorial Fund of the Abingdon Civitan Club, P.O. Box 664, Abingdon, VA 24212.
