He was born in Abingdon on April 26, 1927, and had lived most of his life in Damascus until he became a resident at Grace Healthcare Center in 1999. John had worked at Dutt & Wagner in Abingdon for 46 years and was an avid fisherman and bowler. Before his illness, John would almost daily be on the creek banks fishing. He was a loving husband, dad and pa paw who loved his grandchildren more than life itself. He attended the High Point Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Isabelle Odum Arnold; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Becky Arnold of Abingdon; two daughters and sons-in- law, Chris and Jimmy Clark of Meadowview and Dianah and Allen Kelly of Lexington, Va.; five grandchildren, Jonathan and Brooke Kelly, Rodney Arnold, and Brittany and Jay Clark; a brother and sister-in-law, Hugh "Doc" and Ethel Arnold of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, March 21, 2003, at 1 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Critcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Kelly, Rodney Arnold, Jay Clark, Jimmy Cole, Charlie McCracken, Tony Bebber, Dennis Arnold, Ernie Thompson, Blaine Tate and Steve Nerren. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Cornett, Vernon Waters, Joe Goolsby, Barry Higgins, Harold Odum, Allen Doss, Chris Dado, men of High Point Baptist Church and employees of Dutt & Wagner. A special thanks to Stacy and the employees of Grace Healthcare Center of Abingdon for their care of Mr. Arnold.
