Ballou Sr. ABINGDON -- George L. "Bud" Ballou Sr., 71, of 29093 Hart Run Drive passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at his residence. He was born on March 23, 1931, in Glade Spring, Va., was raised on old Oak Street and was the son of the late Sanders M. Ballou and Ora E. Herald Ballou. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was an auto mechanic. Mr. Ballou was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by his loving wife, Wilma J. Ballou; one daughter, Theresa Ballou Harris of Germany; three sons, Sanders M. Ballou II and Patrick Shane Ballou, both of Ruther Glen,Va., and George L. Ballou Jr. of Chester, Va.; two stepsons,Tony Doss of Damascus and Ricky Thompson of Dublin, Va.; one brother, Samuel M. Ballou of Goode, Va.; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; a special niece, Wallace Margie Ballou and her husband, Victor, of Culpeper, Va.; a special sister-in-law, Wanda Doss of Damascus; special friends, Judy Hoback of Abingdon and Lillian Cox Ballou Ember of Ruther Glen; a special doctor, Jo Ann Viers and nurse, Diane; and special neighbors, Michael Barker and Lisa Blanken. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at the graveside at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus with Rev. Carol Ferguson officiating. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to the caring staff of the Hospice of Southwest Virginia in Wytheville. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Barker, Jimmy Atwood, Randy Atwood, Tommy Luck, Frankie Wagner and Billy Stovall. There will be no viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
