Doss DAMASCUS -- Roy E. Doss, 75, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon after a lengthy illness. He was a native of the Widener's Valley Community in Washington County, Va., and was the son of the late William F. "Bill" and Lura W. Doss. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Doss. He was retired from Brunswick Corporation, Marion, and was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church in Widener's Valley. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jean C. Doss; one son, Allen Doss and his wife, Mona of Damascus; one grandson, Ernie Doss of Damascus; one granddaughter, Khala Campbell and her husband, Jason of Meadowview; one great-grandson, Brandon Scott Doss of Damascus; two brothers, Kenneth Doss and his wife, Ruth and Denver Doss and his wife, Thelma, both of Glade Spring; four sisters, Ruby Gentry and her husband, Arthur of Laurel Bloomery, Tenn., Lucille Thomas of Glade Spring, Bertie Mae Gentry and her husband Wallace of Bristol Virginia, and Beulah Murphy of Damascus; one brother-in-law, Bob Cole and his wife Jean of Damascus; one sister-in-law, Sara Aubitz of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Boyer officiating. The committal service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus. Pallbearers will be L.J. Doss, Randy Doss, Larry Doss, Kenny Doss, Kenny Gentry. and Charles Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack DeBusk, Paschal Grindstaff, Joe Goolsby, Roy C. Thomas Jr., Dr. Emory H. Robinette and Dr. Ernest Henry. The family, minister, pallbearers and friends will all meet at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Garrett Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday prior to the funeral service at the funeral home or friends may call at the residence on Appalachian Trail Drive at any time.
