She was born in Johnson County, Tenn., and had lived in North Carolina before moving to Abingdon in 1968. She was a member of the Big Flats Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Eldreth; a daughter, Linda; a son, Harold; and two brothers, Stacey and Odell. She is survived by two sons, James "Jim" Eldreth and wife, Sandy of Bristol Tennessee, and Roy E. Eldreth and wife, Nancy of Abingdon; six grandchildren, Michael Eldreth, Jeff Eldreth, Tammy Taylor, Tonya Steinberg, Jerome Eldreth and Dean Eldreth; and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Big Flats Baptist Church in Fleetwood, N.C., with Rev. Andy Watson and Rev. Reeves Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and also from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church. Pallbearers will be Michael Eldreth, Jeff Eldreth, William Bruce Eldreth, Ray Eldreth, Matthew Taylor, Larry Lewis, Tom Whittaker, Doyle Jordan and Scottie Jordan. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Martin Monahan, Dr. Andrew Rhinehart, the staff of Westhaven Retirement Living, Grace Healthcare and Johnston Memorial Hospital for all the concern and kindness shown them during Vada's illness.
