She was born in Washington County, Va., and lived in Abingdon until February 1996 when she was admitted to Maple Grove Health Care Center suffering from advanced dementia. She was a devoted mother to her four children, Gene, Mary, Kay and Laine (deceased). She is survived by one son, Joseph Eugene Hale of Hope Mills, N.C.; two daughters, Sandra Hale Hough of Knoxville and Mary Hale Wood of Stevensville, Mich.; six granddaughters; one grandson; three great-granddaughters; five great-grandsons; a very special cousin, Mrs. Betty Mae Ferrier; a dear friend, Mrs. Katherine F. Baker; and a host of other family and friends. A special thank you to the excellent staff at Maple Grove Health Care Center for the wonderful care given to our mother. A home going celebration will be held Saturday, Jan,. 4, 2003, at 12:30 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brian Relford, Pastor of Logan Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, Knoxville, officiating. Burial will follow in the High Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends at noon Saturday until the time of the service.
