Hayes KONNAROCK -- James Warren Hayes, 79, passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at his residence. He was a native of Smyth County, Va., and a son of the late James Harvey and Rosa Stamper Hayes. He had lived in Pennsylvania for several years before moving back to Konnarock in 1998. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired employee from Bethlehem Steel. He is survived by one daughter, Lorene Ball of Chilhowie; one son, Steven Hayes of Chilhowie; three grandchildren, Brian Grim, Debbie Yates and Eric Hayes; three great-granddaughters, Molly Yates, Sadie Yates and Grace Grim; one sister, Helena Adams of Konnarock; one brother, J.D. Hayes of Bristol Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor George Garrick officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Azen Cemetery in Konnarock with the V.F.W. Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 conducting military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to give a special thank you to Helena Adams and Lillian Hayes for all their special care given to Mr. Hayes during his illness. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral service at Garrett Funeral Home.
