She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was a member of the Lindell Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. Holmes. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Joyce Holmes, Meadowview; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Holmes, Modesto, Calif., and Michael Holmes, U.S. Armed Forces in Lompoc, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; and a special care giver, Josie Riffey. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at 6:30 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Mr. Everette Morefield, minister, and Mr. Johnny Farmer, minister, officiating. Pallbearers will be Paul Riffey, Allen Riffey, Charles Counts, Bill N. Farris, Joy Henderson and Sam Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Davenport, D.N. Henderson and nephews. Committal graveside services will be conducted Thursday, March 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Those attending the service on Thursday are asked to assemble at the funeral home for the procession to the cemetery at 10:40 a.m. Those wishing to express sympathy online may do so by visiting www.farrisfuneralservice.com. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions can be made to the Meadowview Fire Department or to the Glade Spring Volunteer Life Saving Crew.
