Howard ABINGDON -- Mr. Wlliam M. "Bill" Howard, 80, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va. He was an active member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Abingdon Civitan Club. He retired from t he Central Fidelity Bank with 47 years of service and following his retirement spent much of his time at the Chick-N-Little with his friends. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving in World War II. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances St. John. Survivors include his wife, Pauline "Penny" Howard; two sons, Robert "Bob" Howard and wife, Susan of Abingdon and Edward "Ed" Howard and wife, Darlene of Waykesha, Wis.; one sister, Margaret Palmer of Abingdon; and two grandchildren, Chris and Christina Colavecchio A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Abingdon United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Rowland and Rev. Betty Reiff officiating. Burial will follow in the Knollkreg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 101 E. Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210.
