WASHINGTON COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Elizabeth C. Morris, 28 Jun 2005

DAMASCUS, Va. -- Elizabeth C. Morris, 77, of Damascus, passed away on Tuesday,
June 28, 2005, at her residence. 

Mrs. Morris was a native of Elizabethton, Tenn., and a daughter of the late
Ernest and Donna Carrier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, James Clarence Morris, a sister, Joanne Carrier Tabor,
and a brother, Ernest Edward Carrier. 

Mrs. Morris attended Carson-Newman College and East Tennessee State
University. Elizabeth and her husband, Jay, came to Damascus in 1953 where he
was a pharmacist and she took a job with the Washington County School System
as a secretary of the elementary school which she held for 31 years before
retiring in 1991. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Damascus. 

Survivors include her daughter, Jayne Morris Smith, Charlotte, N.C.; a
granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Smith, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers and
sisters-in-law, Walter Lynn and Gail Carrier, Elizabethton, Tenn., and James
Allen and Norma Carrier, Watauga, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Vannoy; two
brothers-in-law, Robert "Tony" Tabor and his wife, Pat, and Conley E. Morris
and his wife, Margaret; and a special friend, Clarence DeBusk. Nine nieces and
nephews also survive. 

The funeral service for Mrs. Morris will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, June
30, from the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan McCullough
officiating. The committal service and entombment will be at 11 a.m. Friday,
July 1, in the Chapel of Memories Forest Hill Mausoleum, Abingdon. Flowers
will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist
Church, P.O. Box 993, Damascus, VA 24236 or to Wellmont Hospice, 280 Steeles
Road, Bristol, TN 37620. The family would like to extend a special thanks to
her caregiver, Janet Coyne. The family will receive friends at the funeral
home from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday, prior to the funeral service. Online
