Orr TAYLORS VALLEY -- Naomi Galliher Orr, 76, passed away Saturday, Nove. 30, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was a native of Washington County and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Ann Parsons Yates. In her early years, Naomi was employed as an elementary school teacher working in Damascus and Glade Spring. In 1948, she moved with her husband, Homer D. Galliher, to Mansfield, Pa., where together they worked on the family farm and raised two children. Always outgoing, Naomi was active in the Mansfield Business and Professional Women's Association, North Elk Run Grange, and several groups as part of the Canoe Camp Church of Christ Disciples. During the 1970s, Naomi returned to the work force as a medical secretary for North Penn Health Center. In 1981, after the death of her first husband, she returned to her childhood home in Taylors Valley, where she was an active member of Taylors Valley Church of Christ. A Virginia girl at heart, she loved spending time on the Creeper Trail and arranging community events such as the annual Fourth of July parade. The 1990s were wonderful years for Naomi, as two granddaughters were born, and she was blessed with love for a second time when she met and married John S. Orr. Their brief time together was filled with travel and great adventures with their large extended family. Naomi touched many lives and will be greatly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, other relatives and a countless number of friends. She is survived by her husband, John S. Orr; one daughter, Patti McKelvey and her husband, Larry, of Angel Fire, N.M.; one son, Mick Galliher and his wife, Linda, of Williamsport, Pa.; four stepsons, Glen E. Orr of Destin, Fla., Allen M. Orr of Abingdon, Dale E. Orr of Damascus and Thomas B. Orr of South Bend, Ind.; one brother, John Yates of Taylors Valley; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 in Taylors Valley Church of Christ with Mr. Maurice Widener and Mr. Harley Farmer, ministers, officiating. Entombment will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park Mausoleum in Abingdon. Pallbeareres will be Greg Yates, Timmy Yates, Bob Yates, James Yates, Max Stout and Johnny Yates. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Slagle, Eugene Moretz, Paul A. Yates and James Richardson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Taylors Valley Church of Christ, P. O. Box 143, Damascus, VA 24236.
