She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and taught in the public school system for over 40 years. She loved teaching children and saw hope in each child. Mrs. Ratcliff was the widow of Herbert T. Ratcliff. She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Jane Ratcliff Hill and Dr. Jean Ratcliff Hill of Abingdon; one brother, Malcolm Dutton of Abingdon; a son-in-law, Dr. Robert W. Hill; two granddaughters, Tiffany Hill of Fairfax, Va., and Lauren Hill of Blacksburg, Va.; step-grandson, Robert Craig Hill; and step-great-grandchild, Eden Hill; and special friends, Edd and Sallie Rust of Abingdon. Her loving care givers over the past two years include Phyllis Otey, Betty Ferrier, Lottie Robinson, Rose Taylor, Donna Osborne, Tena Rhea, Penny Anderson, Shirl Hawkins, Helen Holbrook, Mildred Campbell and Frances Goodson. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Campbell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in Knollkreg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Campbell Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or those who wish may make memorial contribution to the Abingdon Head Start Day Care Center, 152 Highland St., Abingdon, VA 24210 in memory of Mrs. Ratcliff.
