She was born in North Holston, Va., the daughter of Isaiah and Dora Henderson Boardwine and was the last surviving child of 10 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Rector. She was a member of the Byars-Cobbs United Methodist Church. She is survived by three children: Robert W. "Bill" Rector, Abingdon; James A. "Jimmy" Rector, Knoxville; and Patsy R. Parker, Glade Spring. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 28, 12003, at 6:30 p.m. at Farris Funeral Chapel. Rev. Thomas B. Sullivan will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. A committal service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring. Pallbearers will be Aaron Rector, Jason Rector, Brian Addington, Adam Sells, Ricky Thomas and James Kestner. Honorary pallbearers will be C.G. "Simon" Thomas, John and Eleanor Hamilton, Leo Hayden and the Harry Prater family Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of choice. The family will receive friends other times than the funeral home at Mrs. Rector's home, 210 Evergreen Lane, Glade Spring. The family would like to thank everyone who has extended help in any way during her illness. They wish to give special thanks to her friend and long-time care giver, Cindy Keesee of Saltville, Dr. Wayne Reynolds and Dr. Gerald Murphy and staff, Dr. Michael Bible, former home-health and personal care staff of the Washington County Health Department, Home Nursing Co., Inc., Virginias Home Health Care and first-floor staff of Valley Health Care Center.
