He was born in Abingdon and lived in Emory until he went in the U.S. Navy. After serving in the Navy, George came back home to live and in 1999 moved to Winston- Salem, N.C., where he stayed until returning to Emory in November, 2002. He was a 1993 graduate of Patrick Henry High School. He loved to listen to music and enjoyed movies but most of all loved his family and his dog, Tinkerbell. He is survived by his parents, John and Linell Rowland of Emory; two sisters, Nan Jones of Abingdon and Susan Rowland of Elizabeth City, N.C.; his grandmother, Nannie L. Rowland of Emory; aunts, Lucy Ameigh, Karen Heinich, Geneve Montgomery and Janet Montgomery; uncles, Lynn Stephenson and Tom Stephenson; and nephews, Tanner and Tyler Smith. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, March 21, 2003, at 3 p.m. in the Holston Conference Cemetery with Rev. Beverly Robinette officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 246, Abingdon, VA 24212.
