Sandefur GLADE SPRING - Mr. Howard "Erk" Harrison Sandefur, age 85, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Mr. Sandefur was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters and his first wife, Pearl Mercer Sandefur. He was a member of the 461st AAA AW Battalion. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, a retired employee of 32 years with Sprint Telecommunications and a member of the former Plasterco United Methodist church where he served in various capacities and also a member of the Washington Springs United Methodist Church. Mr Sandefur was a member of the Glade Spring Masonic Lodge # 236. Survivors include his wife, Maxine Moon Marrs Sandefur; one daughter, Judy and Ken Elledge of Cleveland, Tenn.; one stepson, Randy and Carole Marrs of Asheville, N.C., and three grandchildren, Jared Elledge and Aaron Elledge, both of Cleveland, and Sarah and Jay Webb of Harrisonburg, Va. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Sandefur will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Henderson Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Lusk officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Rose Cemetery, with the Glade Spring Masonic Lodge #236 conducting Masonic rites. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. D.R. Henderson Funeral Home of Saltville is serving the Sandefur family.
