Sproles, 82, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, in the Bristol Nursing Home. Mrs. Sproles was a native and lifelong resident of Mendota. She was the widow of Robert Verlin Sproles and was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Sarah C. Hobbs; four brothers, Ernest Hobbs, Virgil Hobbs, Roy Hobbs and James Hobbs; two sisters, Myrtle Miller and Lula Hobbs. She was an active member of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church for over 50 years before her illness. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of the Bristol Nursing Home. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Sylvan Bentley of Mendota; two sons and daughters-in-law, JR and Vicki Sproles of Bristol Tennessee, Freddie and Jody Sproles of Bristol Virginia; one sister, Pearl Strouth of Bristol Virginia; one brother, Edward Hobbs of Spring Hill, Fla.; one granddaughter, Misty Teaster of Bristol Tennessee; one grandson, Jeff Sproles of Church Hill, Tenn.; and one great-grandson, Landon Teaster of Bristol Tennessee. Also surviving are six step-grandchildren; 10 step-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.D. Neeley officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Creed Dye, Harold Fleenor, Frankie Fleenor, Roy Hobbs Jr., James Cunningham and Sherman Pippin. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday prior to the service in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to the Walnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fence Fund, 6134 Walnut Grove Road, Mendota, VA 24270.
