Sturgill CHILHOWIE -- Wadie S. Sturgill, 83, passed away on Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Va. She was born in Grayson County, Va., and had lived in Washington County, Va., and in Kalamazoo, Mich., for 12 years before moving to Smyth County, Va., in 1972. She was a faithful member of the Chilhowie Baptist Church, where she taught the Faith Sunday School Class for many years and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She is survived by her husband, Franklin M. "Bud" Sturgill; three sons, Theodore "Ted" Sturgill of Konnarock, Va., Douglas Harley Sturgill of Asheville, N.C., and Winston Chesil Sturgill of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two sisters, Neva Blevins of Konnarock and Okie Shumate of Sugar Grove, Va.; one brother, Harding Shumate of Junction City, Kan.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, in the Chilhowie Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Herrell, Rev. Bob Steele and her son, Rev. Douglas H. Sturgill officiating. Special music and singing will be provided by Sammy Lundy and Tonda Jayne. Burial will follow in the Konnarock Community Cemetery in Konnarock. Pallbearers will be Jim Blevins, Herb Blevins, Jerry McClure, Eric McClure, John Blevins, Allen Phillips, Keith Sturgill and Nick Sturgill Jr. Mrs. Sturgill will be taken to the church one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Garrett Funeral Home in Damascus, Va.
