I Isaac Chapman of the County of Washington and State of Virginia, farmer, being very sick & weak in body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my body & knowing that appointed for all men once to die do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament that is to say principally & first of all, I give & recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent christian burial at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with in this life. I give & demise and dispose of the same in the following manner & form. First. I give & bequeath to Elizabeth my dearly beloved wife all my household furniture except two wheels which I give one to my daughter, Rachel and the other ot my daughter Peggy. also one cow & calf for Peggy & one ewe & lamb for Peggy and my horses I give unto my wife and the balance of my cows & sheep I give unto my wife and my Copper tools I give unto my son Andrew and my working tools I give unto my wife all this I give unto her during her widowhood. also my son Nathan I give one two year old heifer also my son William I give unto him one cow & calf & ten dollars. Also my son Isais I give fifty dollars & one broad ax. also my son James forty seven dollars thirty seven of it I owe him also my daughter Sally one cow & calf at her mothers death. also my son Stephen one hundred dollars which he owed me for a years work if he gains the suit with Ervine ten dollars more. also my son John one hundred acres of land or one hundred dollars. also my son Andrew one hundred acres of land or one hundred dollars, also my son Benjamin one hundred acres of land or one hundred dollars. also to my wife & small family one hundred & thirty dollars to pay any debts & move my family. also my son Benjamin one shot gun. also I make my wife Elizabeth & my son James my sole Executrix and Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke & disannul all & every other former Testaments Wills legacies bequests and Executors by me in any wise before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this & no other to be my last Will & Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this thirteenth day of June eighteen hundred & twenty two. Isaac (X) Chapman (his mark) Signed sealed published pronounced & declared by the said Isaac Chapman as his last Will & Testament in the presence of us who in his presence & in the presence of each other have hereto subscribed our names. Richard Whitaker John Whitaker. At a Court held for Washington County the 20th day of August 1822. The last Will & Testament of Isaac Chapman deceased was exhibited in court and proved by the oath of Richard Whitaker a subscribing witness thereto and ordered to be recorded - And on the motion of Elizabeth Chapman & James Chapman the executors therein named who took the oath of an executor prescribed by law & entered into & acknowledged their bond in the sum of six hundred dollars with Richard Whitaker securtiy conditioned as the law directs.
