I John Rowland of the County of Washington being in a low state of health, but being of sound mind and memory and knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death , do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form. Viz Items. I lend to my wife Ellender Rowland during her natural life my land and stock of every kind, household and kitchen furniture, I may die possessed of, for her peaceable use and all money that may be due me to enable her to pay my debts and raise my young children and after her death to be equally divided between her children born to me. Michael, Catharine, Ryland, John, Amsted, Santford, Remembrance and Daniel Rowland, and should any of them die leaving no lawful issue. I will that their part should return and be equally divided between the survivors. I will that if my wife dies before my youngest children becomes of age that my estate be kept together under the direction of my son Michael Rowland, whom I appoint Executor to this my last Will and Testament. I also appoint my beloved wife Ellender Rowland Executrix. I will also that my Executors shall not be bound to give any security and that no sale of any property will as above be sold, as any debt or debts against the estate can be settled without. Witness my hand and seal this the twentieth day of December 1821, Test, Nelson Hopkins William Steward Jacob Minton Thos. Thomas John Rowland At a court held for Washington County the 19th day of March 1822. The Last Will and Testament of John Rowland deceased was exhibited in Court and proved by the oath of Nelson Hopkins and Thomas Thomas two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Eleanor Rowland one of the Executors therein named who took the oath of an executor prescribed by law and it having been directed by the said Will that she be not required to give security in taking probate of the said will. A Certificate is therefore granted her for the probate of the said Will in due form without giving security. Test, Jacob Synch
