WILL OF JOHN BROWN - 1725 The original of this will can be found at the Montross Court House in Westmoreland County, Va. Deed and will book 8, page 46. Will was copied as close as possible including the spelling for Brown/e. In the name of God amen. I John Brown of Washington Parrish Westmoreland County being sick of body but in perfect ____ & memory. Thanks be to God do make ordain & appoint this my last Will & Testament in manner & form following. First I give my soul into the hands of almighty God not doubting but trusting through his merrits of passion of Jesus Christ my saviour to receive forgivness of my sins and my body to the earth to be buried at the direction of my Ex. hersafor named. Item I give my land to my Son Richard Brown and to his heirs lawfully begotton of his body and in case my said Son Richard should die without such heir then I give it to my Son David Brown & his heirs forever. Item I do first is that my Son David Brown do stay & remain with my Son Richard Brown until he shall arrive to the age of forghteen Item I do first is that after my debts are paid that my personall Estate be equally parted to my three children Richard Browne Sarah Browne & David Browne. My do first is that my Son Willaim Browns widdow be not removed off this plantation She now lives on during her widdowhood. Item I do appoint my Son Richard Brown Ex of this my Last Will & Testament. James Mason his other witness to (who is twice dead) sign this said Will as a witness for the same.
