VA. Will of Phillip Sanders. 9 Nov 1722. 6 Apr 1723. In the name of God Amen I Phillip Sanders of the County of Westmoreland, planter, being well stricken in years but of perfect sence and memory and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life do prepare make and declare this my last will and testament in maner and form following: Imprs. I resign and recomend my mortal soul into the hands of my blessed savious and redeemer Christ Jesus in firm hope and belief that his meritorious death and passion to excuse pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and a joyful resurrection at the last day to eternal bliss and happiness and for what worldly state God in the abundance of his name hath been pleased to allow me, I depose thereof in manner and form following Item I give and bequeath to my son William Sanders and to the heirs of his body the plantation whereon William Sanders lives and one-half my land and the appurtanances thereto belonging ..... to him my aforenamed son and to the heirs of his body forever Item it is my will that if by any means my daughter Ursely Taylor shall become destitute of land ...... (and that she will?) in such case it is my desire that she have the privilege of house and land sufficient for her on the plantacon wherein I now live during her natural life. Item I give and bequeath to my grandson John Sanders son of the above named William Sanders the Plantacon I now live on and the other half of my land with the appurtenances thereunto belonging to go to him and the said John Sanders and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten but for want of such heirs then I give the said land and principes to my grandson Phillip sanders and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten but for want of such heirs then my will is that the said land and principes descend to his next heir at law. Item I give to my grand daughter Mary Sanders two pewter basons two pewter dishes and half a doz. of pewter plates All the rest residue and remainder part of my estate my debts and funeral expenses being paid. I give and devise to be equally divided between my loving son William Sanders and my loving daughter Urselee Taylor and my wife Elizabeth Sanders and I do hereby appoint my said son William Sanders whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament and do hereby revoke all former and other wills and testaments by me made and I do declare this and none other to be taken for my last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seale this 9th day of November 1722. Phillip Sanders mark (seal) Signed sealed and published in presence of Thomas Asbury, Thomas Cockerall his mark....At a court held for the said County the 27th day of March 1723 The last Will and Testament of Phillip Sanders decd was presented into court by William Sanders his executor who made oath thereto and being proved by the oaths of Thomas Asbury and Thomas Cockerall two of the witneses thereto was admitted to record and upon the mocon of the said exe and his performing what is usual in such cases certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form,---Test.
