I John BUTLER of Westmoreland Co., in Virginia weak and sick in body but in perfect sence and memory praised be to God make this my last Will and Testament in manner and forms followeth ~ Imprs. I do bequeath my Soule into the hands of almighty God my heavenly father bequeathing him of his eternal goodness to pardon and forgive me all my sins for my blessed Saviours sake, Christ Jesus and that he would be pleased to raise my Soule unto Glory at the latter day and body to be decently buryed by my Executors hereafter nominated and appointed! Item I doe give and bequeath unto George PURVIS one heifer bigg with calfe & one sow & piggs. Item I forgive Richard COGIN one hundred pounds of Tobacco that he oweth me. Item I give and bequeath my whole estate to be equally divided between my loving wife Katherine and my children. Item I do nominate ordaine and appoint my loving wife Katherine BUTLER and my loving brother Wm. BUTLER full and sole Excs. of this my last Will and Testament renouncing all former Wills or Testaments whatsoever and it is my will and desire that if my wife cannot keep the children 'tis my desire that William BUTLER have my eldest son Thomas BUTLER and my brother James BUTLER have my son John BUTLER and John BAKER to have my son James BUTLER and this will stand remain and abide as my last Will as aforesaid as witnesses hereof I have hereof put my hand!
