Mary Janes mother was the daughter of unwed Jeane Juline Scarberry, and her grandmother was Nancy Mullins, the daughter of Old Booker Mullins and Nancy Stanley. Nancy Mullins was married to Samuel Scarberry. She was the widow of the late Elzie Ward. Born in Wise County Virginia, she came to this vicinity when a mere child. Surviving are four children, Martha Hall, Trinnie Steel, May Hall and Elzie Jr. Funeral services were held on January 15, and burial was made in the family cemetery. 1st ? Someone cut the child out of it because she was illegitimate. Silly people back then!
