Baker COEBURN -- Virgil L. Baker, 68, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, in The Heritage Hall Health Care Facility, Big Stone Gap. He was a retired ship- fitter from the Newport News Shipyard. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Lynn Porter; and his parents, Garland and Lola Baker. Surviving are two daughters,Vicky Darlene Gonse of Picayune, Miss., and Robin Carol Rodriguez of Gulf Port, Miss.; three stepsons, Charles Wesley Ashworth of Blackstone, Va., Richard John Ashworth of Newport News, Va., and Dennis Lyle Baker of Smithville, Va.; two brothers, James Baker of Williamsburg, Va., and Royce Baker of Coeburn; a sister, Reva Baker of Coeburn; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel, Coeburn, with Pastor Richard Ashworth officiating. The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. Saturday until time of service. Sturgill Funeral Homes, Coeburn, is in charge of arrangements.
