Bandy Sr. STONEGAP, Va. -- Ralph Edward Bandy Sr., 89, loving father and grandfather, entered into eternal rest after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003. He was born and raised in Imboden, Va. He attended Appalachia High School prior to his retirement in 1983. He was employed by Robinette Bag Company of Bristol, Tenn., Harley Bag Company of Spartenburg, S.C., The Old Dominion Drug Store in Appalachia, where he worked with his father-in-law, Dr. R.C. Bray, Westmoreland Coal Company and Paramount Coal Company. Ralph was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Big Stone Gap. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Bray Bandy; his parents, Charlie and Susan Bandy; and two brothers, Harold and Steve Bandy. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Ralph E. Bandy Jr. and Debbie Bandy, Kingsport; three daughters and sons-in-law, Louise Bandy of the home, Susan Bandy Lohstreter and Jack Lohstreter, Garland, Texas, and Doris Bandy Bowman and Charles "Bob" Bowman, Stonega, Va.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Bandy, Merced, Calif.; brother, Bill Bandy, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, in the Roy A. Green Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Mutter and Rev. Joe Berta officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or American Cancer Society, P.O.
