PAUL -- Hassel Ray Bond, 59, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in the Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Kingsport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oakley and Jalie Meade Bond; two brothers, Harless Bond and Glen Bond; and a sister, Lola Mae Ward. He was a retired employee of the Bullion Hollow Coal Company and a legendary coon hunter. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol Carty Bond; a son, Stacy Hassel Bond of St. Paul; two daughters, Rosemary Taylor of St. Paul and Lawana Miller of Jonesborough, Tenn.; two brothers, Winfred Bond of Tampa, Fla., and Daris (Bill) Bond of Castlewood; six sisters, Jean Ward and Doris Marshall, both of St. Paul, Betty Bush of Florida, Sue Richardson of Huron, Ohio, Fay Schuh of Ohio, and Shirley Sexton of Coeburn; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m.Wednesday in the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel, Coeburn, with Rev. Mike Lawson and Rev. Billy Carty officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwards Cemetery, Coeburn. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Sturgill Funeral Home, Coeburn. Sturgill Funeral Homes, Coeburn, in charge of arrangements.
