Litton BIG STONE GAP -- Opal Gertrude Fields Litton, 78, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap surrounded by her loving family. Born one of 11 children to the late Silas and Molly Fields, she was raised in Inman, Va., and lived her entire life in the Appalachia and Big Stone Gap area. Opal was a devoted member of the Appalachia First Baptist Church and an active member of the community. Along with her late husband, Gilmer C. Litton Sr., she helped build and owned and operated Litton's Fabrics in Big Stone Gap for more than 25 years. She was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Fields, Edith Leonard, Mary Hampton, Flossie Doppler; and one brother, Estle Fields. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Gilmer C. and Nancy Litton Jr. of Hurricane, W.Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Buren Bloomer of Big Stone Gap; grandchildren, Felicia Bloomer Dalton, Amy Litton, Robert C. "Bobby" Bloomer, Dana Litton Kohute and Marisha Bloomer Roberts; great- grandchildren, Grant and Ty Bloomer, Patrick and Alex Dalton, Madeline Litton and Grace Kohute; brother, Thomas and Vera Fields of Kingsport; and sisters, Lillian Jean Waldron of Seaford, Del., Gladys Swann of Selbyville, Del., Emily Towe of Mosheim, Tenn.,. and Evelyn and Dan McKinney of Big Stone Gap. Also left behind are several nieces and nephews and many close and dear friends that Opal touched with her love and friendship. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Roy A. Green Funeral Home in Appalachia, Va. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Appalachia First Baptist Church with Rev. Nick Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Appalachia First Baptist Church.
