Martin William "Bill" Ulysses Martin, 77, passed away Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at his home. He was retired from Crete Carrier after 19 years, was a sergeant in the Army and a veteran in World War II. He was a member of Belle Meadows Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lena Ritchie Martin; and sister, Laura Sutters. Survivors include his wife, Mabel Glen Elliott Martin of the home; two daughters, Connie (Charles) Jones of Damascus and Rita (Randy) Heath of Monroe, Mich.; two sisters, Virginia Shumate of Bristol Virginia and Geraldine Rosenbaum of Greenville, Va.; and one brother, Robert Phillips Jr. of Damascus. Also suriving are the grandchildren, Cheryl Jones, Caitlin Jones, Greg (Beth) Evans, all of Damascus, Chris (Kristie) Jones of Somersville, S.C., and Neil Evans of Bristol Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Tanner Jones, Tyler Evans and Abbey Evans; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus. Pallbearers will be Bill Keesee, Chris Jones, Randy Heath, Greg Evans, Neil Evans and Danny Shumte. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Akard Funeral Home. Also, friends may call on the family at the home, 808 5th St., Bristol, Tenn., or at the daughter's home, 33671 Widener Valley Road, Damascus. Surviving are two sons, Earl Leroy Hensley of Dryden,Va., and Teddy Wayne Hensley of Wise; four daughters, Louellen Hensley and Wanda Mullins, both of Wise, Nancy Absher of Kingsport and Kathy Ireson of Big Stone Gap; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel, Wise, with Rev. Robbie Fultz officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Saturday at Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise. Sturgill Funeral Home,Wise, is in charge of arrangements.
